Getting Money for Music Conference

26 April 2006
Ocean Music Venue, London E8

Music organisations from across east London came together at a high profile event on 26th April 2006 at the Ocean Music Venue in Hackney. The conference Getting Money for Music - Learn how to Earn it, discussed ways in which non-profit music organisations can raise more sponsorship and private sector investment, and ultimately support the development of the diverse community music and educational activity taking place across the sub-region.

For the first time private sector funders, music industry professionals as well as key development agencies came together to debate and present opportunities for increased private investment in the development of the music sector in east London.

The conference, organised by CIDA on behalf of the East London Music Group, highlighted how leading professionals have succeeded in creating partnerships with business and showed others how it could be done. CIDA organised this event as part of the specialist support it offers the creative and cultural sector in east London.

Speakers included Rowena Somerville-Cotton - Director, Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs at USB, Wendy Wyatt - Creative Promotions Manager at Creative London, Kathryn Deane - Head of Sound Sense and Rob Cowan - CEO of Point Blank.

"The music sector is an important growth area for east London, contributing significantly to the growth of the creative economy and people's quality of life. Music organisations can increase the level of support they receive through sponsorship and this event will them to do this." Anwar Akhtar, Chief Executive of CIDA.
