CIDA’s aim is to become a model of best practice for environmental awareness within the creative and cultural sector. CIDA has many partners, stakeholders and clients. We have a position of influence in the creative sector. We can set an example by tackling climate change and working towards a cleaner future where waste and energy consumption and pollution production is reduced.
CIDA’s 5 environmental objectives and targets for the next 12 months
- Encourage environmental sustainability in east London by offering environmental health-checks and referral to environmental support agencies to clients and partners.
- Monitor and review environmental impacts of all CIDA office spaces, materials, equipment and resources, in line with the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code (CIDA signed up to this in 29/01/2008).
- All CIDA advisers will provide information and training on environmental issues to support the needs of CIDA clients.
- Use renewable energy and sustainable products and resources where possible.
- Measure staff awareness and engagement by ensuring information is updated and circulated regularly and a staff green team formed to support the delivery of the action plan and understanding of this policy.
CIDA has joined up to the 10:10 project and we will try our best to cut our emissions by 10%, as part of a wider national effort to significantly reduce our output of greenhouse gasses in line with what the scientists say is needed. 10:10 is a national drive to cut the UK’s carbon emissions by 10% during 2010.
CIDA will communicated and implement this by:
- Adding timers to electrical equipment i.e. fax machines, printers, and water coolers- in order to reduce wasted energy.
- Ensuring all PC’s used by staff are turned off when not in use and screens turned off during lunch breaks and meetings.
- Turning off lights when rooms are empty or natural light levels are sufficient, introduce more energy efficient light bulbs.
- Improving the heating and cooling systems in CIDA’s workspaces, by using thermometers to measure room temperature, turning thermostats down instead of opening windows.
- Engaging landlords SSBA to improve environmental management within the whole of the Business Development Centre building.
- Looking for ways to support partners and clients to develop environmental awareness and implement their own environmental management systems.
- Displaying the environmental policy to read on the CIDA website and in the main CIDA office.
This policy will be reviewed on a yearly basis.
The CIDA green team will ensure the following:
- Objectives and targets of the policy are communicated to all members of staff.
- Objectives and targets are monitored.
- Changes are implemented.
