As part of the V&A’s Residency Programme they are offering a unique 3-day workshop ‘Composed, Inscribed, Performed…’ for young adult creatives, from diverse backgrounds, who want to explore a mash-up of calligraphy, poetry and digitized graphics, inspired by the art and design of text held in the National Art Library and a gallery space of their choice.

The dates of the workshop are:

Friday 1 March, 15.00 - 20.30
Saturday 2 March, 11.00 - 17.00
Sunday 3 March, 11.00 - 17.00

You will be working alongside some of the best talent in their field including:

  • Professional scribe, lettering artist and former V&A Calligraphy Resident Cherrell Avery http://www.cherrellavery.co.uk/
  • Acclaimed poet, spoken word artist and lyrical thinker BREIS (pronounced breeze) https://soundcloud.com/mrbreis
  • From the BAFTA award winning ‘Studio Show + Tell’, Ali Assaf will bring his unique digital skills to bare www.studioshowandtell.com

To apply, you must be 18 - 26, studying any aspect of the visual arts, performing and theatre arts, media arts or creative writing OR have completed your studies and are at an early stage in developing an arts-based career in these areas.

You must be available for all 3 days and times of the workshop, be out-going with a keen interest and willingness to collaborate with your peers and participate in all aspects covered, including calligraphy, writing and reciting poetry / spoken word, digitizing graphics and presenting and performing your work to an audience at the V&A Museum.

If you are interested and meet the above requirements, send an email with no more than 3 images of either completed or work in progress (media, visual, performing or creative writing) plus 150 words max describing: how this workshop will inform your progress as an artist and inspire new ideas and challenges in your work?

Emails should be sent to Janet Browne no later than 27th February at 12 midnight! The first 30 applications received will be considered for the remaining places. You are strongly advised not to apply if you cannot meet the requirements.
