The aim of the East London Cultural Tourism Group was to raise the cultural profile of East London and to support the regeneration of East London.

The East London Cultural Tourism Group was a network of cultural destinations, events and relevant strategic partners across east London including venues, galleries, museums, festivals and events organisers.

The Group:

  • Built contacts
  • Exchanged information
  • Developed joint initiatives
  • Discussed shared issues and opportunities.

The ELCTG was made up of over 40 public and private sector organisations within the cultural destination and events sector. In 2002 when the first members were brought together it consisted solely of organisations based in Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets which then expanded to all 10 London boroughs of the Thames Gateway (Barking & Dagenham, Corporation of London, Greenwich, Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Lewisham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest) as well as over 5 strategic partners.
